According to David Ornstein, Arsenal’s chances of signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa in the January transfer window seem slim.
Despite previous attempts to acquire the Brazilian midfielder, Ornstein suggests that it’s unlikely to happen this time. While there is admiration for Luiz among some at Arsenal, Ornstein notes that this view may not be shared by everyone at the club.
During a Q&A session on The Athletic, when asked about the possibility of Luiz joining Arsenal in January, Ornstein responded, “I don’t think so. There is admiration for him among some at Arsenal (hence them trying to sign him the summer before last) but I don’t think that view is shared by everyone. More importantly, the view at Aston Villa has been clear: no chance.”
Luiz has been a key player for Aston Villa, contributing significantly to their success in both domestic and European competitions.
Ornstein acknowledges the Brazilian’s excellent form and suggests that Villa’s strong position, coupled with the financial commitments Arsenal made in the summer transfer window, makes it unlikely for the Gunners to secure Luiz’s signature without a substantial financial outlay.
While Arsenal has been linked with several midfield targets, it appears that the pursuit of Douglas Luiz in January might face significant obstacles, with Villa reportedly standing firm on their stance that the player is not for sale.
