Mauricio Pochettino claims he did not sense Chelsea supporters’ affection as they pivot during the Brentford tie.
Chelsea’s late header from Axel Disasi saved a point at Brentford, but only after the home team had turned things around in the second half.
During the second half, Chelsea supporters yelled at co-owner Todd Boehly, sang Jose Mourinho’s name, and demanded that Mauricio Pochettino be fired.
Nicolas Jackson’s opening goal was cancelled out by goals from Mads Roerslev and Yoane Wissa in the second half, which was when Axel Disasi salvaged a point with a late header.
When asked if he was concerned about his relationship with the fans at his news conference after the game, Pochettino replied, “I am not worried.” We must acknowledge this bond.
‘You feel the love from the fans?’ someone questioned. No. Our relationship needs to be strengthened. You develop a bond with someone by winning games, but right now we aren’t living up to expectations. In football, you often pay the coach or those in authority.
Pochettino responded, “It’s normal, we were losing the game 2-1 and they expressed their frustration,” after denying hearing the chanting. Since I am the head coach, of course I am accountable.”
Chelsea, who lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, are currently 11th in the Premier League and have gone to the FA Cup quarterfinals, which is their only remaining opportunity to win a trophy this season. Pochettino is not to back away from the task.
“I am fighting with all my sense to try to provide a team with the tools to work, improve, score goals and win games,” he stated.
