Previous 49ers kicker Robbie Gould resigns after 18-year career

Longtime NFL kicker Robbie Gould is resigning taking after an 18-year career that set up him as one of the game’s best within the clutch

Gould reported his retirement on The Player’s Tribune on Thursday. Gould had been a free specialist after the San Francisco 49ers selected not to bring him back for a seventh season. Gould went through 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears and one with the Modern York Monsters.

“At the conclusion of the day, each organization I’ve played for has had a positive affect on my career, each one clearing out its interesting and noteworthy check on my travel,” he composed. “And I might not be more appreciative that’s how it played out for me.”

The 49ers included a tribute to Gould on one of the computerized signs at the entrance to Levi’s Stadium Thursday.

Gould, who turned 41 on Wednesday, went from being a walk-on at Penn State and undrafted within the NFL to having an amazing professional career. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2006, come to the Super Bowl with both Chicago and San Francisco and resigns with the eighth most career field objectives (447) and 10th most focuses (1,961) in NFL history.

But it was within the postseason when Gould was at his best, making all 29 field objectives and 39 additional points he endeavored for the foremost made kicks within the playoffs without a miss in NFL history. No one else has more than 23 makes without a miss.

Of all the kicks Gould made, one stands out over the rest. It came amid the 2021 divisional circular when he was with the 49ers and went to Green Narrows to play the Packers, his longtime equal from his a long time with the Bears.

On a cold day at storied Lambeau Field, Gould made a 45-yard field objective on the ultimate play to provide San Francisco a 13-10 win.

“The temperature was underneath zero, and it felt precisely the way it did when I played within the Blustery City,” he reviewed. “Snow was falling, and the ground was delicate. It wasn’t perfect, but none of that mattered; as a kicker, it was one of those minutes I lived for each time I ventured on the field. And after that … We nailed it right down the center. A bit like that, the amusement was over.”
