Ohio State Coach Ryan Day Makes Statement on Potential Transfers Ahead of College Football Playoff
The Ohio State Buckeyes squeezed into the first ever 12-team College Football Playoff on Sunday with a daunting matchup against SEC foe Tennessee on the docket set for Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
The Buckeyes have not had much success against the SEC Conference in recent years, culminating with a flatlining performance against the Missouri Tigers last season during a game in which coach Ryan Day’s team was without quarterback Kyle McCord, who transferred to Syracuse, and Marvin Harrison Jr., who headed for the NFL.
On Sunday, Ohio State coach Ryan Day revealed his stance on the transfer portal with questions surrounding how things might play out after his team’s deflating recent loss to the Michigan Wolverines.
“Ryan Day expects that many Ohio State players who plan to enter the transfer portal will wait until after the Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff run is over, but says that will be an individual decision that’s up to each player,” reporter Dan Hope said on X.
The Buckeyes were active in the portal themselves last offseason, snagging former Alabama stars Caleb Downs and Seth McLaughlin, Kansas State quarterback Will Howard, now the Buckeyes’ starter, and others.
The Buckeyes will rematch No. 1 Oregon should they get past the Volunteers, in what would be a rematch of the Ducks’ 32-31 win at Autzen Stadium this past October.
