The Ohio State Buckeyes are exploring the possibility of a change in their offensive coordinator position for the 2024 season. According to reports from Kentucky Sports Radio, Liam Coen, the current offensive coordinator at Kentucky, is likely to attract interest from the Buckeyes during the offseason.
Liam Coen, who returned to Mark Stoops’ coaching staff in Lexington after a brief stint with the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, is also a potential candidate for the vacant offensive coordinator position with the Chicago Bears following the dismissal of Luke Getsy.
Originally from Rhode Island, Coen joined the Wildcats in 2021 and played a crucial role in reshaping the team’s offensive strategy, particularly with quarterback Will Levis. Kentucky concluded the season with a 10-3 record, securing a 20-17 victory over Iowa in the Citrus Bowl.
During his tenure, the Wildcats’ offense excelled, ranking in the top 50 in various categories, including impressive third-down conversion rates. In the 2023 season, Coen’s offense notably improved, finishing No. 23 in red zone touchdown percentage, No. 40 in yards per play, and No. 51 in points per drive—significant advancements from the 2022 season.
With a desire for offensive changes after an 11-2 finish, Ohio State has been active in the transfer portal, adding running back Quinshon Judkins (Ole Miss) and quarterback Will Howard (Kansas State) to their roster. Notable players like Emeka Egbuka, TreVeyon Henderson, Donovan Jackson, and others are expected to contribute to the team’s pursuit of a conference title.
