The majority of the squad that finished the previous season under Jurgen Klopp has been retained by the Reds thus far.Between now and the transfer deadline, Liverpool’s roster may shift a little.
But as the new Premier League season approaches, it appears that Arne Slot will soon add his own touch to the Liverpool team.
Of course, there can be incomings. Martin Zubimendi is being pursued by Liverpool, and it’s been reported that Slot may want to add two more forwards.
Despite the euphoria around the new arrivals, Anfield may see one or two departures in the upcoming weeks.
If Liverpool does make any departures, it appears likely that a sizable portion of them will be young players.
Numerous teams are showing interest in Fabio Carvalho, while Liverpool has rejected offers for Sepp van den Berg.
Despite their talent, Carvalho and Van den Berg have only combined for 25 games with the Reds. The fan base might not be very emotional when they bought from them.
For Joe Gomez, that would be a very different situation. Gomez nearly signed for Newcastle in June, as was recently disclosed, and there’s still a chance the 27-year-old will depart this summer.
Few at Liverpool would mind Gomez leaving if that’s what he wants after nine years and nearly every trophy imaginable won at Anfield.
Additionally, journalist Matt Law claims that Aston Villa may have an opportunity to sign the defender.
According to Law, taking to X, Villa is thinking about going for Gomez in the event that Diego Carlos completes his move to Fulham.
Aston Villa likes Trevoh Chalobah in addition to Joe Gomez and Lutsharel Geertruida as potential Diego Carlos alternatives. Chalobah is also liked by Crystal Palace, the reporter notes.
It would seem appropriate in a way for Gomez to leave Liverpool at this point. The departure of Klopp marked the end of an era for the team.
Gomez is the player who has spent the most time at Anfield throughout the German’s tenure with the Reds.
Furthermore, Gomez is allegedly dissatisfied with the existing setup at the team after his attempt to transfer to Newcastle earlier this summer failed.
Gomez might be able to move on if Villa makes a serious bid for the No. 2 spot, which would replace Carlos, who is valued at £26 million.
However, some of the other possibilities on Villa’s list appear to be more affordable, so this is by no means a guarantee.
