One of the first teams to take the field for the eagerly awaited 2024–25 season will be the Orlando Pirates.
The first round of fixtures has been confirmed following a two-month break from domestic football competition. The Soweto Giants will open the season by defending their MTN 8 title.
On Saturday, August 3, the Buccaneers take on SuperSport United, a rival team from Gauteng, at Orlando Stadium in the first quarterfinal. It will be the first time the two teams have faced off in the competition since the 2018 edition, when the Buccanee
rs lost in the penalty shootout after an exciting match that finished with a score of two goals apiece.
Since then, the Pirates have won the competition three more times, including back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024, to increase their total number of Top-Eight football victories to 12. Having experienced victory a record five times, they continue to be the most successful team of the MTN8 era.
The take on Matsatsansa first, with the Tshwane team aiming to win the prized silverware for a record-breaking fourth time. They are now chasing their 13th title overall. The game is slated to begin at 18:00.
