Tim van Duijn, a journalist for Voetbal International and an authority on Dutch football, is optimistic that Chuba Akpom will leave Ajax Amsterdam next month despite rumors that the striker will be moving to Nottingham Forest.

Following the collapse of a deal during the January transfer window, the two-time European winners have rekindled their interest in the Super Eagles prospect.

After spending €12.3 million, the Hale End Academy graduate transferred to Ajax from Championship team Middlesbrough last summer.

Because he didn’t get enough playing time in his debut season with Ajax, Akpom is hoping to leave the Amsterdam team.

Since Ajax needs the Nigerian forward for their Europa League second qualifying round match against Vojvodina, a trade is unlikely to occur this month.

In the event that Akpom stays at Ajax, he may fall to number three in the striker rankings, behind Weghorst and Brian Brobbey. Tim van Duijn stated, as quoted by FC Update: “He (Akpom) absolutely cannot leave for these two games, he has to play them. After that, Ajax will cooperate in a departure. That he will leave is certain.” Akpom finished his first season with fifteen goals and three assists in 36 games at Ajax Amsterdam, where he is under contract through June 30, 2028.
