Adrian Mazilu, the incoming Brighton signing, has set his sights on making a name for himself in the Premier League as he prepares for his final game at Farul Constanta.
Albion signed the teenager from the Romanian club this summer, but he has spent the first half of the season with Gheorghe Hagi’s side.
Following a breakthrough season in which he scored seven goals in 23 appearances, the 18-year-old has two goals and three assists in 2023/24.
Before joining the Seagulls next month, the 6ft 1in attacker will play in Constanta’s final game of the season, against Rapid Bucuresti – and Mazilu is determined to leave his boyhood club on a high note.
“It will be my last match,” he told Farul TV via Digi Sport. “I hope to enter the field, to give my best.” It meant a lot to me because this is where I started playing football. Everything I know came from the academy. “This is where I got the trophies and medals.”
Mazilu, who gained valuable experience in Champions League and Europa Conference League qualifying this season, understands that playing under Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi will be a significant step up in quality.
The Romanian under-21 international, who prefers to play as a right winger, is up for the challenge.
“It will be difficult; I must adapt to their style and cope.” It is Europe’s strongest league, with the most beautiful football,” he said.
“I’ve wanted to play in the Premier League since I was a child, and my dream has come true.” I need to take the plunge and make my debut there. My plan is to make my Premier League debut there and then progress to the senior national team.”
