Over the past two seasons, Jared Goff has been precisely what the Detroit Lions’ reconstruction needed. The veteran quarterback, who was acquired by trade, had a difficult first season but has performed admirably in the previous two, helping the Lions to a 21-13 record.

He assisted in leading the squad to its first division crown since the 1991 campaign in 2023 and led Detroit to its first two playoffs victories since 1957.

The team’s success has been greatly attributed to his performance, which has been on level with or better than any passer in the league. By the end of the season, Goff’s overall offensive grade from Pro Football Focus placed him tenth among starting quarterbacks.

Goff performed even better according to PFF’s passing grade criteria.

With an 85.2, he finished in sixth place. He outperformed players like Lamar Jackson, the NFL MVP, and Jalen Hurts of the Eagles in that particular area.

Goff has shown remarkable growth since moving to Detroit before the 2021 season, as seen by his career-high totals in both categories.

His 2023 campaign was statistically exceptional, finishing in the top five in several league categories. He just trailed Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa in passing yards, finishing second in passing yards and fourth in throwing touchdowns.

Goff has started every game for the past two seasons, demonstrating his extreme durability. That’s partly because of a fantastic offensive line that has kept him standing.

Goff’s success has also been greatly influenced by his collaboration with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. The team’s success can be attributed to both Johnson and Goff, whose execution of Johnson’s plan was flawless.

Two outstanding pass-catchers who are still in the early stages of their careers have also developed for the Lions. In the NFL, Amon-Ra St. Brown has emerged as one of the top wide receivers, and Sam LaPorta has established himself as one of the top tight end players following his rookie campaign.

Goff is the straw that stirs the beverage, though. He is now expected to sign a large extension that would solidify his position as the quarterback of the future for the Lions. Given the present status of quarterback contracts and his increased market value, it’s not difficult to envision him signing a deal worth $50 million a year.

The Lions should therefore rest at ease knowing that he will lead them to a Super Bowl in the near future. Detroit appears to have a good number of its essential core players in place. The team can add the pieces it needs to contend for a Super Bowl championship throughout the winter.

Even while he might not rank among the top ten quarterbacks in the game right now when they’re all healthy, Goff was unquestionably one of the greatest in 2023. And the Lions will remain competitive if he can keep developing.
