The Tennessee Vols could soon be adding a transfer wide receiver to their roster.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos predicted on Thursday that Tennessee will land Alabama Crimson Tide transfer wide receiver Amari Jefferson.
Jefferson, 6-foot/197 lbs from Chattanooga, signed with Alabama during the 2024 recruiting cycle. He didn’t see any action as a true freshman this past season.
Jefferson, who was rated as the No. 33 wide receiver and the No. 5 player in the state of Tennessee in the 2024 class, was heavily pursed by the Vols as a recruit.
In fact, Jefferson was committed to Tennessee for baseball for multiple years (he committed to UT baseball in June 2021). 
Jefferson, however, committed to Alabama football in August 2023 (nullifying his commitment to Tennessee baseball). He was an early signee with the Crimson Tide, signing with Alabama during the early signing period last winter before Nick Saban announced his retirement.
“It being so close to home and opportunities it brings being a Tennessee kid,” said Jefferson on Thursday to On3 of possibly transferring to Tennessee. “They have a very good young team and a lot of guys I’m close with, played high school ball with and stuff like that.”
The Vols badly need to add some wide receiver talent after losing multiple wide receivers last month to the NCAA transfer portal. Tennessee is also losing Dont’e Thornton to the NFL.
Jefferson didn’t play as a true freshman for Alabama, but he’s still a player with a high ceiling that has the talent to help the Vols in 2025.
