AM LEAVING: Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Announces Departure

In a surprising development, Texas Longhorns head football coach Steve Sarkisian announced on Friday his decision to step down from his position after leading the team for three seasons. The announcement comes just days after the Longhorns secured a berth in the College Football Playoff, marking one of the program’s most successful campaigns in recent years.

In a heartfelt statement, Sarkisian cited personal reasons for his decision to leave, emphasizing the difficulty of walking away from a team he believes is poised for greatness. “This has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my career,” Sarkisian said. “The University of Texas, its players, staff, and fans will always hold a special place in my heart, but the time has come for me to focus on my family and personal well-being.”

Under Sarkisian’s leadership, the Longhorns experienced a resurgence, with his offensive-minded strategy bringing national attention back to the program. Hired in 2021, he rebuilt the team around a dynamic offense, developing star players and guiding the Longhorns to consistent Top 25 finishes.

Athletic Director Chris Del Conte praised Sarkisian for his contributions, stating, “Steve brought energy, innovation, and leadership to this program at a critical time. While we are sad to see him go, we respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best in the next chapter of his life.”

The search for Sarkisian’s replacement will begin immediately, with rumors already swirling about potential candidates. Offensive coordinator Jeff Banks and several high-profile coaches across the NCAA are among the names being speculated.

The Longhorns now face the challenge of maintaining their momentum heading into the playoffs under interim leadership. Fans and players alike remain hopeful that Sarkisian’s departure will not derail the team’s pursuit of a national championship.
