Antonio Pierce Has Three-Word Response to Question About Raiders Job Status
Antonio Pierce won the hearts and minds of Las Vegas Raiders fans last season when he led the team to a 5-4 record following the firing of Josh McDaniels. His performance led to him earning the full-time head coaching job in the offseason.
However, this season has gone far worse for Pierce than last year. The Raiders are 2-12 and a 15-9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday extended their losing streak to 10. There have been rumors that Pierce could be one-and-done.
The Raiders have cycled through eight coaches since Mark Davis took over as owner in 2011 and he can’t be too eager to make yet another change. For now, Pierce isn’t saying too much about his future.
During his Tuesday press conference, Pierce was asked by a reporter if he expects to be back as head coach next season.
“I’m under contract,” Pierce said in response.
That’s not exactly a strong statement from the coach. It remains to be seen what Davis might do. He now has Tom Brady involved in his ownership group and his voice could loom large. Prior to getting elevated to the head coaching role, Pierce only had two years of coaching experience at the NFL level.
That lack of experience could work against him as the Raiders don’t have much to point to that would indicate he could turn things around with time.
