Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce just had a bad surprise dropped on him by the person he needs to impress the most
The Las Vegas Raiders are in a tough situation as the 2024 season nears an end. They are in a good situation in terms of potentially having the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and possibly getting their franchise quarterback finally. However, they are in a weird position because of the head coaching situation.

Last season Antonio Pierce, who at the time was a linebackers coach, took over after Josh McDaniels was fired. He became the interim head coach, somewhat turned the team around, and almost made the postseason, short just a few games.
The players rallied for him, some even blackmailed the team, and he was named the head coach of the 2024 season.
And nothing has gone right since. The team is now 2-11, with a nine game losing streak after their most recent loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Pierce has not shown any growth as a coach but instead to me, has gotten worse. So what do the Raiders do?
They want to make sure they have the right head coach in place for their next QB, the guy who is supposed to be the savior of this franchise. They don’t want the wrong head coach to be running things with the franchise rookie quarterback.
Do they give Antonio Pierce one more year? Do they wait and see who’s available? It’s a really tough situation. For AP, he now knows that nothing is off of the table.
Some members of the media spoke to Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis recently, and they asked him a few questions. He mentioned that Pierce and Tom Telesco will both be evaluated after the season, separately.
And, that has to scare Pierce a bit, because if you do a small evaluation from where I’m sitting, everything says he should be fired. But then again, do you seriously want to keep doing this coaching merry-go-round every other year?
The Raiders are in a weird position, and Pierce is in a bad position, but one that he pretty much put himself in. The Raiders play the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football next, and then the Jacksonville Jaguars.
