NRL wrap: Shaun Johnson retires after last-second winner, Dolphins embarrass Broncos, Eels shock Dragons

Shaun Johnson has finished his NRL career in magical style, laying on the winning try in the final seconds of the Warriors 30-28 win over the Sharks.

With the Kiwi club trailing 22-6 at the break, Johnson inspired a rollicking second half revival as he laid on three tries to inspire an epic victory.

Inside the final minute it was the retiring halfback who took control as he rifled a pass out to Dallin Watene-Zelezniak from close range before the winger stepped inside and slammed the ball down to send Johnson out a winner.

The retiring playmaker finished with three try assists and kicked several key sideline conversions to round out the match.

“Far out,” Johnson said in an on-field presentation.

“I know we carried on a bit tonight, but this is my last game so we’re allowed to carry on.”

Earlier, the highly fancied Brisbane Broncos are facing elimination from NRL finals’ race after the Dolphins dominated the first half of their Round 26 clash at Lang Park.

Chasing their first-ever win over their Queensland rivals, the Dolphins built a commanding 24-6 lead at the break before going on with the job in the second half.

Parramatta’s win over St George Illawarra had thrown the door open for both Queensland sides in the race to the finals.

The Eels threw the fight for the final top eight spot into chaos with their 44-40 win over the Dragons.

Parramatta led 44-12 with 11 minutes remaining before an almighty revival from the Red V, who crossed for five late tries.

It gives the Dragons the highest losing score in premiership history and puts them on the outside looking in when it comes to the finals race.
