Former Oregon football player Khyree Jackson dies in automobile accident
EUGENE, Ore. — Khyree Jackson, a former Oregon defensive back who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft, died at the age of 24.
According to Maryland State Police, Jackson was one of three people killed in a car crash Saturday morning in Prince George’s County. The other two occupants of the car that died were Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24. Two other cars were involved in the crash. According to the preliminary investigation, a silver Infiniti struck the Dodge Charger containing Jackson, Hazel and Lytton Jr.The Infiniti also struck a Chevrolet Impala. No one was injured in the Infiniti or the Impala.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning shared his condolences on social media, saying “RIP Khyree…Love you @Real_Khyree at a loss for words. I will miss your smile. Great player better person.”
The Minnesota Vikings released a statement which reads “We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident. Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident.”
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell also released a statement through the team: ‘I am absolutely crushed by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immeidately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.
