Sydney Swans key forward Sam Reid has called time on his career, announcing his retirement from football, effective immediately after sustaining a hamstring injury in the VFL on Saturday.
The 2012 Premiership player is hanging up the boots after 15 seasons, 181 games and 183 goals in the red and white, telling teammates of his decision on Tuesday morning with wife Kim and children Saxon and Harley by his side.
Drafted with pick 38 in the 2009 draft from the Wangaratta Rovers, Reid made his debut in Round 22, 2010 against the Brisbane Lions. He quickly became known for his versatility, athleticism, and contested marking ability, earning the 2011 Sydney Swans Rising Star Award. The following year Reid cemented his name in Sydney’s record books as part of the 2012 Premiership side.
