Leeds United is getting close to bringing in a seasoned midfield player on loan from Premier League team Bournemouth as their third summer addition.
Despite numerous departures this summer, the Whites have only been able to sign two players. Alex Cairns has returned to Leeds from Salford, and Joe Rodon has permanently rejoined Leeds from Tottenham.
Leeds needs midfielders all over the field, but the middle of the park needed to be strengthened because of the sale of Gray and the switch of Ethan Ampadu from midfield to center defense last season.
It has occasionally left Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara as options, and even both of those players are being linked to a summer departure, with Gruev being eyed by Dortmund and Rennes reportedly nearing an agreement with Kamara.
The Athletic reports that Joe Rothwell of Bournemouth is his route to Elland Road for a medical examination. The 29-year-old returned to The Championship last season after spending 18 months at Bournemouth in 2022.
He moved on loan to Southampton in January, where he assisted Russell Martin’s team in winning the play-offs. He was not used as a substitute against Leeds in the play-off final, and Bournemouth will release him.
According to the report, he is almost certain to sign a contract with Leeds that includes a permanent option. Although his Bournemouth contract is still in effect for two years, it seems unlikely that he will stay much longer at The Vitality.
