Ohio Softball Adds Transfer Ashley Sturgill to Roster

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball team has announced the addition of Ashley Sturgill to the roster for the 2025 season, head coach Jenna Hall announced today (July 10). Sturgill comes to Ohio from Jackson College with two years of eligibility.

“We are very excited to welcome Ashley to our Bobcat Family” Hall said. “Ashley is a true utility player who has both power and speed. She will bring a versatility that makes our entire lineup stronger. She’s a player that everyone will love to watch.”

At Jackson, Sturgill played in 88 games and had a career .320 batting average, with 77 hits, 13 doubles, two triples and eight home runs. She also added 47 RBI, drew 35 walks and stole 73 bases, while recording a .413 on base percentage and a .490 slugging percentage.

Last season, Sturgill hit .341 with 47 hits, eight doubles, one triple and six home runs. She added 34 RBI, drew 22 walks and stole 51 bases, while producing a .438 on base percentage and a .543 slugging percentage. After the season Sturgill was named Division II All-Region Team, NJCAA All-Region Team, All-MCCAA and MCCAA Eastern Conference First Team.

During her freshman year, Sturgill was a part of the Jackson team that went 40-19 and was named NJCAA Great Lakes District A champions and helped the Jets record their first NJCAA Softball World Series win by recording the game-winning RBI.

Prior to her time at Jackson, Sturgill played softball at Western High School and for the Kalamazoo Kings (2018-21), Tennessee Mojo (2022) and Athletes HQ (2023). In 2022, Sturgill recorded a .500 batting average, .532 on base percentage, .800 slugging percentage and added 43 RBI, eight doubles, two triples and six home runs. During her high school career, she also earned All-Conference I-8 Honorable Mention, Team Academic All-State, Offensive Player of the week multiple times and MLive Softball Dream team for Jackson Area.

Sturgill is the daughter of Kristina and Casey Sturgill and has one brother, Michael. She enjoys pickelball, shopping, volleyball, movie nights, hanging out with friends/family and coaching. She is a fan of Josie Muffley and the Detroit Tigers. Sturgill plans to major in sport management at Ohio with hopes to go into coaching or to be an athletic director one day.
