After spring practice, there may be more offseason acquisitions for the Buckeyes than those that have already been made.
Early this month saw the closure of the 2024 offseason’s first transfer portal window. Although players who have lost their head coach have been given more time to move from schools, college football rosters are essentially finalized after spring practice.
So far, Ohio State has added six new athletes through the transfer site. Number-wise, this is comparable to the Buckeyes’ position on the transfer portal one year prior to the addition of three players in the spring and one more in the summer. When the transfer portal reopens on April 15–30, the Scarlet and Gray will have another opportunity to do this.
It makes sense that Ohio State will keep an eye on what players from other institutions hit the transfer portal after spring practice. Despite being happy with their existing roster, which consists of 85 scholarship players, Ryan Day and his staff have shown that they are willing to acquire players if they feel the right one is out there. Furthermore, it’s impossible to predict which players on the roster will choose to leave following spring practice.
