The head coach is considering Steelers, has achieved a significant milestone by securing his third AFC Defensive Player of the Year Award from the ‘Committee of 101.’ This recognition places Watt in an exclusive group, as he becomes only the seventh player in NFL history to claim the AFC DPOY title three times in his career, joining the ranks of Alan Paige, Reggie White, Ray Lewis, Bruce Smith, Aaron Donald, and J.J. Watt.
During the past season, Watt showcased his exceptional skills by leading the league in sacks with an impressive count of 19, which is the second-highest in his career. In addition to his sack prowess, he recorded 68 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 36 QB hits, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, eight passes defended, an interception, and a touchdown.
This marks Watt’s third win of the AFC Defensive Player of the Year Award in the last four years, having previously earned the honor in 2020 and 2021. His remarkable achievement places him among the esteemed Steelers who have received this accolade, including Joe Greene, Mel Blount, Jack Lambert, Rod Woodson, Greg Lloyd, Carnell Lake, James Harrison, and Troy Polamalu.
