Following their victories as national champions with the Michigan Wolverines, McCarthy and Harbaugh are now on their way to the NFL. Together, Harbaugh and McCarthy had a fantastic run at Michigan, where Harbaugh finished with a 27-1 overall record and advanced to the College Football Playoffs in both of McCarthy’s seasons as a starting quarterback for the Wolverines.

McCarthy became one of the best passers in college football thanks to Harbaugh’s tutelage; he completed 67.6% of his passes for 6,226 yards and 49 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions.

McCarthy won the Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year award in 2023 and was named to the first team of the Big Ten under Harbaugh’s coaching. McCarthy’s success in college is anticipated to make him a high-round selection in the 2024 NFL draft.

Now that Justin Herbert has been selected, Harbaugh will partner up with him, and J.J. McCarthy will sign with a another team. QB development under Harbaugh has been well-documented; among them are Andrew Luck, Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick, and McCarthy. Herbert is a former Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowler with a powerful arm that Harbaugh will partner with. With Harbaugh in the driver’s seat, the Chargers should have a spectacular season.
