Nuno Espirito Santo has been named head coach of Nottingham Forest to continue the legacy of his predecessor, Steve Cooper.
The 49-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at the City Ground and will take charge for the first time against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
“What Steve [Cooper] did here is amazing,” Nuno went on to say.
“Restoring Forest to the Premier League and keeping Forest in the Premier League.” The respect Forest fans have for Steve demonstrates how good they are. That says a lot about our supporters.
“We’re working hard to improve his legacy.”
“What we can bring is an attempt to improve the players.” Help players improve, and provide them with the solution they require to compete well, beginning on Saturday.
“The biggest challenge we have ahead of us is to play well and win.” It’s a huge undertaking.”
Nuno joins Forest with a five-point lead over 18th-placed Luton Town, who have played one fewer game.
Forest has only won once in 13 games, with a single point in their last six.
When asked if he believes the squad will need to be strengthened during the January transfer window, Nuno stated unequivocally that he will give the players currently at his disposal every opportunity to impress before making any decisions.
“We have a good group of players, a squad that needs to become better,” he said.
“Look, the only people who can and should improve things are those who are present right now.”
