Norwich City do not want to sell midfielder Gabriel Sara, but The Sun reports that the club is ‘fearing’ winter bids.
Sara, a Brazilian attacking midfielder, joined Norwich City from Sao Paulo last summer. He quickly established himself as one of the division’s top midfielders, and he’s continued to perform well this season.
Despite primarily playing as a defensive midfielder, the 24-year-old has five goals and eight assists in 22 league games.
Sara’s outstanding first season with the Canaries drew some high-profile attention earlier this year. According to reports (Sunday Mirror – 12.03.23, pg. 71 via West Ham Zone), West Ham, Atletico Madrid, and RB Leipzig are all interested in the Norwich City star.
Now, as January approaches, The Sun reports that, while the Canaries are determined to keep their key player, they are ‘fearing’ winter bids.
Norwich City are not in the best financial shape, but they are determined to keep key assets. This includes Sara, a midfielder, and Jonathan Rowe, an academy graduate who is expected to be at the center of a Premier League transfer battle in January.
Norwich City finds itself in a difficult situation. Their continued struggles in the second tier may make it difficult to deter interest in Sara and Rowe, and their limited funds indicate that a large cash infusion would be very welcome.
Despite their improved form, the club remains hopeful of making a play-off push under David Wagner. The Canaries are tenth in the Championship table, five points off the top six.
Losing either Sara or Rowe, let alone both, could be fatal to the team’s chances of making the playoffs. But only time will tell if bids for the key pair come in, and what Norwich City’s response will be.
