The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (13 December) that the Bundesliga club is planning a January transfer for the German defender as well as Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek.
West Ham are keen to offload a few players in January in order to begin rebuilding David Moyes’ squad, with Kehrer expected to be one of those allowed to leave the London Stadium.
Frankfurt is said to have already used intermediaries to discuss a possible move in January, with early indications that the German side will be able to complete a deal.
Whatever your thoughts on Kehrer are, it is clear that Moyes isn’t convinced by the German defender given his lack of first-team involvement this season, and it would be best for all parties if the Hammers sold him in January.
The 27-year-old’s appearances have primarily been in Europa League matches, and he has yet to start a single Premier League game this season, appearing in only 21 minutes of league action in the first three months of the season.
West Ham have adequate defensive depth and do not need to keep the German defender at the London Stadium, especially if they can raise some much-needed funds by selling him in the January window.
Moyes’ side is in need of a consistent goalscoring number nine, and if the Irons can get a reasonable fee for Kehrer, it could help fund a move for a new striker.
There should be no reason for Moyes and those above him at the London Stadium to stand in his way as long as Frankfurt match the price that the Irons want for the 27-year-old when the transfer window opens.
