Spurs’ own demise occurred when Destiny Udogie gave Vicario a poor backpass. The keeper managed to push the ball away, but Bowen was first to race onto it, and Ward-Prowse was left with the goal to aim for.
His initial attempt hit the crossbar, but he was quick enough to recover and score from the rebound.
Everton defeated Newcastle 3-0 on Thursday to move out of the relegation zone. The Merseyside club’s 10-point deduction for breaking the league’s financial regulations last month sent them into the bottom three of England’s premier league.
However, it has responded admirably, winning two straight games to move up to 17th place in the rankings, one spot above the drop zone.
At Goodison Park, goals in the second half from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Beto ensured the victory over Newcastle.
Newcastle had defeated Manchester United 1-0 the previous weekend, but they were unable to close the gap on fourth-place Manchester City to just one point.
However, McNeil’s drive into the box and left-footed shot that deflected into the corner past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka put the visitors ahead in the 79th minute.
Seven minutes later, Doucoure doubled Everton’s lead, and in the ninetieth, Beto made it 3-0.
Everton would be in 10th place and only six points behind Newcastle in seventh place if not for the 10-point deduction. Rather, even with the victory on Thursday, it is ten spots behind Eddie Howe’s squad.
