Piers Morgan envisions Arsenal challenging for the Premier League and Champions League titles if they secure the signature of Ivan Toney.

Arsenal’s impressive start to the season, topping both the league and their European group, has fueled optimism among fans. Morgan, a prominent Arsenal supporter, believes that acquiring a top-class striker like Toney could be the missing link for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

While the Gunners are reportedly eyeing a striker and have Toney on their radar, Brentford is determined to retain their star player, who is set to return to action in January after an eight-month ban for breaching betting rules. Morgan, speaking on The Sports Breakfast, emphasized the significance of adding Toney to the Arsenal lineup.

Expressing his views on the striker situation, Morgan stated, “I still think we need a world-class striker.” He acknowledged Gabriel Jesus’s abilities but highlighted the need for a natural, predatory goalscorer, a role he believes Toney could fulfill. Morgan expressed reservations about Eddie Nketiah’s readiness, citing a lack of experience, and emphasized the importance of a dominant goalscorer, a characteristic he feels Arsenal currently lacks.

Morgan praised Arsenal’s defensive strength, acknowledging Arteta’s faith in goalkeeper Raya and the solid defense. He also commended the strong midfield and talented wide attacking players.

However, he emphasized the absence of a standout striker, reminiscing about past title-winning eras with iconic players like Anelka, Wright, Bergkamp, Henry, and Van Persie.

Reflecting on Arsenal’s potential, Morgan argued, “In the years that we won titles, we had Nicolas Anelka, Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and players of that calibre – we don’t have one of those.” He believes that acquiring a striker of that caliber would not only enhance their chances in the Premier League but also position them as contenders for the Champions League.

Morgan’s optimism stems from Arsenal’s recent statement of intent, hinting at the squad’s competitiveness. While defensive strength, midfield brilliance, and attacking flair are acknowledged, the missing piece of a prolific goalscorer, according to Morgan, is crucial for achieving success in domestic and European competitions. The Gunners’ pursuit of Ivan Toney reflects their ambition to elevate the squad and contend for top honors in the footballing world.
